Plants
After centuries of farming and agriculture, there is little old forest growth left in this ecozone. The coniferous trees found in forests are: red spruce, black spruce, white spruce, balsam fir, red pine, jack pine, and more. The deciduous trees found in forests are: yellow birch, white birch, paper birch, sugar maple, red maple, striped maple. Some of the plants found here are: steeplebush, blueberry, sphagnum moss, kalmia heath, smooth serviceberry (smooth juneberry), violets, and more. At least 10 plants are reconized as either endangered or threatened by the committee on the status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada.
Animals
There are many small herbivores found here including: the eastern chipmunk, beaver, porcupine, and more. Carnivores include: black bear, lynx, red fox, striped skunk, and more. Tourists love seeing these aquatic mammals: harbour seal, gray seal, hooded seal, harp seal, orca, northern bottlenosed whale, and blue whale.
